Welcome
Craniosacral Therapy in Hackney Downs and Primrose Hill, London.
My name is Anouk Chalmers RCST
What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy is a holistic, somatic practice that can help to relieve stress, release restrictions and bring us closer to physical, emotional and spiritual alignment. It’s a very gentle, yet profound form of touch therapy that enhances the body’s natural healing abilities.
What does Somatic mean?
‘Soma’ in Greek means ‘body’. Somatic means ‘of the body’.
How can Craniosacral Therapy help me?
Craniosacral Therapy is suitable for anyone at any age due to its gentle, relaxing nature. It can be beneficial in treating a vast range of conditions, restrictions or traumas, be it physical or emotional as it stimulates the body’s natural healing abilities. It can be helpful in almost any situation; from frozen shoulder/back pain, migraines and headaches, post viral conditions like long covid, jaw tension/TMJ, depression, anxiety, PTSD, heartbreak, grief, chronic pain, digestive problems, insomnia, lack of energy, stress, nervous system dysregulation, ENT problems, birth trauma, head injuries and many more conditions or traumas. It can simply be an opportunity to tune in with yourself in a restful and restorative environment.
What might a treatment look like?
After a short check-in, you lie fully clothed on the treatment table, usually under a blanket and with your head on a pillow. I take up contact at various points on the body, particularly the feet, head, shoulders, chest, solar plexus and sacrum. I also include fascial unwinding in my Craniosacral practice. This is the process of working with the fascia to facilitate the release of tension and adhesions. When this occurs, it can allow for increased mobility, better brain function and the potential for profound emotional release. My work is consent led and there is always the option to work off the body.
How does it work?
Every session is different and depends on what your body needs, at your own pace. My job is to facilitate a safe environment for your system to express through motion, stillness, release and reorganisation. This can look different for everyone, session to session. Craniosacral therapy can offer a sense of coming home to your body and enhance your ability to heal.
About my journey
Hello, I’m Anouk (she/they). I am a queer, Scottish and French Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist. While working as an actor, I discovered Craniosacral Therapy in my search for physical and emotional well-being support. Seeing first hand the potency and potential of this practice, I trained at the renowned College of Craniosacral Therapy London, where I am now part of the teaching team.
My background in acting and movement taught me about presence, listening and energy. Craniosacral therapy has deepened my understanding of these while significantly expanding my awareness, offering me grounding and enhancing my appreciation for life. It offers us time and space to encounter ourselves and allow our processes, emotions and pain to unfold and be held.
